A Gambling Man

If I was a gambling man, which I’m not, but did look the part some years back. Odds are this is a kind of pastiche, of an older, dime-store detective series. Or noir, old school.

Previously? One Good Deed. Same universe.

Formula. Or it tries to be a — tries to follow an idiom, the potboiler, noir detective novels. Dames with nice gams, board with a nice set of teeth.

Fast-moving dime-store detective — interpreted with an updated set of sentiments.

What makes a good detective?

“Listen, ask questions, don’t believe anything is true unless you can corroborate it, and don’t trust anyone.” Page 108.

Personally, I’m a big fan of that, “… don’t believe anything is true unless you can corroborate it…”

Amusing book, took me away from the current events.
