Less is More

Less is More
Less is more: how less stuff is more productive. Less stuff. Less clutter. More doing.

Seeing Jimmy Buffett, Capricorn, live, some of the songs in his regular rotation, they take on a different meaning, when performed in front of an audience. In the song, “One particular harbor,” there’s a line, live, comes out slightly modified, “Hell, I’ve got too much stuff!”

The new Apple iPad, new PowerBooks, new Mac Pro cylinder thing, all of these items — now on sale — evoke hardware lust.

With age and experience comes hard-won knowledge and understanding, wisdom, to some.

Perhaps, as a long-time user, fan-boy, or observant consumer, I understand the Apple product line, and I’ve been more careful with each acquisition.

My current desktop is a 3.06 iMac, late 2009 vintage, bought used (factory refurb.) I’ve updated the drive, that’s about it.

When this computer shuffles off this mortal coil? I think I’ll go back to the laptop-only setup I’ve used in the past. Simpler, easier, and less is more.

I want less stuff, not more stuff. A couple of years ago, I did my first set of consultations with just my iPad, no laptop, and it’s not the first time. I did that, once upon a time, with just a “slightly intelligent” phone, not really a smart phone per se, but above average intelligence for a telephony device at the time. Honestly, I still prefer the sheer computing horsepower of a desktop or laptop, but the day is coming…

Less stuff. Not more stuff.
