Coffee Cyclops

Before it was even a simple sketch, before my line drawing, it was an idea. Borne forth from the liminal zone between sleep, mediation, and subconscious, I had this image.

I’ve been drawing, line sketching, variations on themes for some years, more as a reminder about what coffee I had where, the flavor, effect, and sometimes affect of the beans themselves. This is not new. We write what we know.

What amused me the most, the image in my mind’s eye, a single blackened oval for the surface of the coffee, an oily mixture itself, this prompted by some more Red Whale beans, a dark, textured, full of flavor, nuanced suggestions of spices, and hints of exotic locations, delivered via my sister from the West Coast.

There is a singleness of purpose, a blind eye towards but one destination, and a lack of stereo vision, which implies, there is no other interpretation.

I really should drink coffee before I start writing.
