Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Some movies are just OK. Some movies are great. Some movies are savaged by critics and yet wind up being great fun. To me, the entire Indiana Jones franchise has been great fun. What I hope might be the last installment?

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is every bit as cliché-ridden, and yet, for my dollars, every bit as fun. Hits the right notes. Bright with a splashy finish. All the action, not too much preaching, and refers back to earlier bits in the series.

Fun. Excellent traffic for a 2-hour respite in the middle of the day, trying to beat the heat. Perfect. Nuanced, without being too heavy in its allusions. Historically, a few holes, but who cares? The action carried the story.

Still an action hero, oddly enough, same age as the president, and Indy saves the world. Again.

As my family is wont to point out?

“We never let the facts interfere with the story.”

At the Alamo Drafthouse now.

Alamo Drafthouse, still the best place to see a movie.
