End of the Retrograde

End of the Retrograde?

So close and yet, each Mercury Retrograde has its own, special “gotcha.”

“I like thy wit well, in good faith.”
– First Clown, Hamlet (5.1.19)

The graveyard scene, near the end of Hamlet, right?

Some excitement at home, various items to be attended, and I passed out cold, early, Wednesday evening. I have a reminder on my phone, but my phone doesn’t sleep with me. Part for health, part for mental peace, part because I won’t answer 3 AM calls. To be fair, I’ve handled two “after midnight” the usual, “I’m down at the jail, and I sort of …” kind of calls — in the last ten or twelve years, but other than a select few fishing buddies, yeah, not doing that.

3 AM phone calls? If you’re in jail, call a lawyer or, at the very, least bail bonds. If it is business? I’ll be happy to answer on the next available business day. If it is an astrological emergency, it can wait. If it is a real emergency, call 9–1–1. So the phone wasn’t with me. No phone means I never heard the reminder to check the site, and make sure the minions were fulfilling their tasks, like posting the horoscopes in a timely manner.

Good help is so hard to keep?

Woke up and walked on Thursday morning, then looked at the inbound e-mail, tapped the horoscopes, and noticed that the browser was still showing the Tuesday entry. Thought to myself, “That’s weird, browser must be loading the cache,” and I worked on another project until I switched machines, and the problem persisted.

End of the Retrograde?

After a final edit, sign off on Wednesday afternoon, I failed to notice that the Wednesday 11 PM publish time had changed to Thursday at 11 PM. It’s a classic example of what happens when Mercury is in apparent retrograde motion. This last one, with all my processes and preparations in place, coffee, candles, bottled water, and toilet paper? I was almost unscathed. Almost. There were some technical issues with recording readings, but I’m used to that, and I factor in allowances.

By 11 AM — 12 hours later than usual, the horoscopes posted. Blame failing eyesight, blame the age, or, like me? Blame Mercury in Retrograde, as one last “gotcha” — never said this doesn’t get us all. Waited until the end of the retrograde to nail me.

Life might be a lot easier if there was manual for this stuff.
