Agar

Agar

The way I learned about it, or relearned about it, this digs deep, but the first “Mac” virus, it was stamped out in a hurry, but the first version was easy to catch by looking at the resource fork of an application that was infected. To help thwart the spread of the “mac” virus, there was a small application that was a shell, really, just — think an icon — that looked like a mac app, but was nothing more than an empty shell. Super easy to see. Think it was called, “Agar,” named for the inert gelatin used to grow cultures in laboratory settings.

I was probably exposed to that gelatin and its name in high school biology, not that I recall, though.

Agar

So the term “agar” comes to me from a computers, via the biology lab, with roots in medical technology, but I think in terms of that shell of an application. Just an icon that looked like a computer application that would attract a self-replicating and malignant computer code virus. An inert gel, like that. Perfect culture to grow the evil spawn upon.

Agar

By my definitions, astrology is nothing more than language. As such, it is the domain of words. My little petri dish is a weekly column. I can explore what it means to have — define some astrological action — and then, with the column, I can explore how that works out.

Agar

I tend to think of the works as experimental, and always — always — striving to improve. Each week, an effort to get better, yes?

This is a petri dish, and I see what cultures — grows. The weekly words are growing in that agar of the weekly missives.
