The House of Secrets – Brad Meltzer & Tod Goldberg

Cover shot 7/11

Previously, Brad Meltzer Books — so a new one? Sure.

Some books are just better as digital — jump right over to look up the author’s trivia. Some real, some not so much.

I will suggest the author has an excellent grasp of histroy, espcially US History.

“If there was one cosntant in history, it was that the victors torched property, salted the earth, destroyed all the old idols.” Page 34.

Torched earth, always a good plan for the victors. Anyway, the book?

Good read with a twist at the end. Or the double back–flip, kick, thing. At the end.

“Bet you didn’t see that coming!”

I did not. Clever, with a some odd background material that is eerily current. The book carries an April 2016 publication date yet references current events that were, at the time, less than a few months old.

As I’ve suggested, clever. A central conceit runs throughout the novel, and that’s amusing, too, on that intellectual level.

Can’t say whether it was because the book was co–authored or because the writer is getting better, or his editorial process has improved, but this was a much more even–paced and gripping than the previous works I’ve read. I would mark it “Highly Recommended” with a nod to a character from the previous series, you know, a cameo appearance. Cool.
