The Mastermind

The Mastermind

For several years, I participated in a high-level Mastermind call. Built on the Carnegie model, the original mastermind I was in eventually disbanded.

Next, I took over a secondary effort, a strictly “Metaphysical Mastermind,” which was, originally, a “Metaphysical Marketing Mastermind,” and that’s given way to its current iteration, a loose group of a few hardy souls, we were meeting on a phone line once a week.

It’s about problems, goals, shared insights, and what’s up with what’s up. Sometimes, looking at an obstacle for. A shared perspective offers insights and solutions.

Interwoven in my extant material, there’s some of the guidelines and nuggets I’ve gleaned from those original masterminds.

One of them is about goal-setting. The way it was spelled out to me, the goals we would each state, each week, at the end of the call, the goals were easy to measure, a simple metric for success, easy to obtain, and easy to reach. Realistic goals.

Part of what I’ve learned, in the simple goal-setting practice, is to make targets that are possible to reach. Typically, I’ve got a one-week time-frame to accomplish that goal. One time it was to set up a web page, easy enough, as that takes, maybe, 20 minutes, if I’m focused.

Having particpated in enough “talking cures,” over the years, I’m pretty conversant with the conversation process, and how all this works. The very first time, I rattled too much. After that, though, I learned to listen and implement ideas.

The Carnegie model mastermind, with a timer, just a phone call, it works well. It’s a spin on group therapy and various other organized talking therapies, and what’s been fun with my Metaphysical Mastermind, is pulling out the too much like a business bone.

Opens the topics up to a little more universal nature, and makes it more interesting to me. After all, that’s what’s most important, to keep it interesting to me.

Not every implementation has worked. It’s not about always being successful, but it is about always getting back up for another run at it, maybe from a different angle.
