That quote resonates from what some folks would call a “misspent youth,” but there was nothing misspent, as it unfolded like it should. Errant, to some, be that as it may, what it is, is, merely that.
Fact.
So anyway, I recall the original quote, and then, over the intervening years, that expression has crept back into my daily patter. It points to a succinct point, a metaphor, along the lines of the musical reference, “Money can’t buy me love,” but more pragmatic.
The ubiquity of “teh inter-webz” makes it easy to find copies, sources, and some Print-On-Demand T-Shirts for that quote. Originally from comics. Doper-Stoner comics, putatively “Underground” comics, which, sadly enough, are all mainstream, now.
Still, the expression encapsulates much of what I teach. It makes the point I like to drive home, makes it in a funny yet literate, with offbeat humor, drawn from a previous time. When edgy was edgy.
