Longhorn Ford

Longhorn Ford

The Longhorn Ford Ranchero

Some trust fund hipster bought up an old dive bar, changed it up a little, and as token gesture, they brought in a mascot vehicle. Name of the place is painted on the side.

I hold a special place in my heart for such vehicles. The “Truck-ette.” Never owned one, looked for one, several times. Never happened but the search goes ever onward.

Longhorn Ford

I’ve seen that one parked downtown, over and over. Looks pristine, cherry. What’s so appealing, other than the obvious, slightly ironic longhorn hood ornament, is the — guessing it’s a 1966 — it looks good, drivable. The question is, a place that used to serve beer, wine, pool and trouble? Can they change to a wilted arugula salad with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and similar fare?

The Taco Garage closed, the downtown location didn’t make it, no thanks to a snappy, snooty manager. I’m not sure how this place will fare.

The car — truck — the Longhorn Ford, that’s a cool token emblem. Maybe hipsters with real street cred. Isn’t that ironic? (And that link is over ten years old, how ironic is that?)

I’m not, but I sure sound like one.
