Socially Relevant Rock

First thing in the morning, some music that — at one time — carried great weight. Dead Kennedy’s singing “Kill the Poor (disco version).”

There was a time when the music mattered. There was time when, as young people with a life unfurling in front of our very eyes, we had a future to chart. Destination. A world to change.

Socially Relevant Rock Music. Punk. Neo-classical punk, I believe is the accepted moniker. The correct handle.

Hard to turn up new information, but there’s still someone on the internet, willing to take a stand.

The music was socially relevant at the time, and what’s fun, for me, it still stands up well. The patina of punk has worn off, but the spirit remains strong, even if the flesh is weak.

The music meant something, and like other rebels, still carries meaning today. It’s socially relevant rock. Or, to some extent, still considered punk, but well into middle age, how can that be true?
