A Sense of Size

One of my frequent jokes, I spent nearly a year in New Hampshire for education, and one of my frequent barbs is that I have clients with ranches larger than the state of New Hampshire.

The inter-webs are handy for summary fact checking, although, with the political fallout, who’s checking the fact checkers? Anyway, the largest county in Texas is probably Brewster County, over 6K square miles. Bigger than Delaware and bigger than Connecticut, but not, sadly, larger than Vermont.

Another place I lived, and loved, was the Phoenix area, with its metropolitan area now an estimated 17K square miles. At that rate, it is bigger than New Hampshire, and almost as large as those two put together, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Places like Houston, Phoenix and Dallas are not my preferred environments any longer, as I’m too old and too slow for such places and paces. I also greatly prefer walking pace and places, and that makes Austin a gem, and San Antonio a diamond in the rough.
