However, there comes a time when new information is available. I thought about this on the long, lonely drive from Corpus Christi to that enigmatic symbol, the Bexar County Line sign. Once in San Antonio, traffic gets more and more nightmare-like until Austin, but before that? There’s time to reflect. I didn’t get to this one in time, but here’s the idea, the volcano, in Iceland, with a name I can’t even fathom, much less pronounce? That volcano disrupted international air travel.
The foul-up, sure, a Mercury in Retrograde experience, but that’s not all, see, this time, it’s in an earth sign (Taurus), and this time, it’s disrupting international air travel, and this time…
The symbolism is that there is a problem. The dependence on a single form transportation to guarantee commerce continues? Air is not the only way to go.
At one point in my career, the baggage handler at the Austin airport knew me by first name and frequent destinations. I was a good tipper, steady, if not good. I went by air because it was cheaper to fly Southwest than to take a train (subsidized by tax dollars) or drive a car (I still don’t own a car).
Just cheaper, merely an economic choice. Which did, on occasion, force me to take the train, and that’s a different tale for another time.
The problem isn’t air travel; the problem isn’t a volcano; the problem is an interruption in some aspect of modern life we take for granted. Mercury is merely reminding us of what should – or shouldn’t – be taken for granted.
Spewing acres and acres of molten earth in the sky? How can that symbolism not make sense?
