Marfa on Sixty Minutes and

Marfa, TX. I’ve written about it. For a spell, I used one of the roadside markers for the Marfa Lights as as a rotating image, the first time more than a decade back.

There, in the archives, more than a decade old, then.

Marfa is not a new place. I knew it was special when I first landed there in the 1990s, early 90s, I believe. Been there. Done that. Loved it then; recognized its worth. Extolled its virtues, over and over from a trailer park in South Austin.

There are other freaky occurrences, the Marfa Lights, the ghosts, especially the ghost of James Dean, and the list goes on.

I still have one or more images as of yet unpublished from out there.

There’s the faintest tinge of something, I’m not sure what, seeing it on 60 Minutes. Something’s missing. A quick glance of former loves? People I no longer know? Fragments of past lives?

Joe Ely, an intro to a live version of ‘White Freightliner,’ he speaks of Marfa’s Main Street. One Xmas, a single image, cattle haulers, festooned with Xmas lights.

I (square) Judd.

The second part? The ad that ran right after Marfa bit? Done in silence. With subtitles. Brilliant, not connected to anything, just brilliant. Sign language. That took cojones. Well-played, if you ask me.
