Austin Pepper pR0n

Continuation of a series, I hope. While I started it in the side project, this is an example from legendary South Austin. Home.

Hardware: iPhone
Software: CameraBag.app, iPhoto
Location: H-E-B, South Congress & Oltorf, South Austin, Texas.

The Ruby Tuesday entry is the first shot, the ripe habanero peppers influenced the decision, and it only took a moment’s work to apply the filter on the phone’s camera. So much for the photo part.

That one grocery store, it encompasses worlds of tales, observations, and cultures. It’s a crossroads in Austin, and that one store really does beat with the true heart of what Austin can be.

There’s dark-skinned, from working outside, families of possibly foreign origins, pregnant teenagers, old-school hippies left over from the 60’s and probably in their sixties, then there’s the hipsters with the tattoos, young, old, middle-age faking youth, and it all blends. There’s a smooth transition, “Almond milk, both kinds, in the refrigerator, or in the carton, over there….” (Aisle 5, thank you.)

This one grocery store, from its perfected location to the contents and customers, the intersection of Oltorf and South Congress, the slice of life is perfect. I’m surprised that it’s not a tourist destination.

It’s the perfect combination.

Domain Names & News:
I figured it out, a little poking around online, what it actually costs to register a domain name. Around a buck. The esteemed WSJ reports that domain giant Go Daddy is for sale. They don’t make much money off the domain registration, where the money’s made is in the add-ons.

Why I like Register4Less.
