Logo and Branding

Italian Roast:
I wrote about this image once before. Deconstructing the image, it’s an obvious logo from a certain brand of (coffee shop) that is quite universal, to the point of an international brand. Kind of light on the advertising but overwhelming in universal presence. There was a time when there wasn’t one everywhere.

Not complaining, just observing. What I like best, besides that’s one of the best kinds of roast the company sells? What I really like about the logo? Look: look closely. It’s easy to recognize where the stuff comes from, but look again… The multinational corporate machine, with its sanitized logo? Nowhere to be seen.

In other words, it’s a logo and brand without a logo and brand. Just a kind of coffee roast. The company’s brand is universal and therefore, universally acknowledged, and yet, in that red scooter, no name. No logo, no name, no direct link.

It is a really good roast of coffee, if strong, dark and bitter is good. It is, to me.

Jerry Jeff Birthday:
Gruene Hall, Gruene, TX –
(Gruene: gently resisting change since 1872)
Cousin Brad picked up some tickets, and an excellent time was had by all.

Jerry Jeff Walker swung into “London Homesick Blues,” Brad leaned over, “Who wrote this?”

Gary P. Nunn, original with the Lost Gonzo Band.

Jerry Jeff cruised into “LA Freeway,” cousin Brad posited the question about authorship again.

Guy Clark.

“You know your Texas music,” Cousin Brad admitted.

Ain’t my first rodeo.

Other Jerry Jeff recollections? Show in Dallas when Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings stopped by, and a show in Worcester, MA. Jerry Jeff was blind drunk, spun around and his red guitar took out two mike stands.

Wasn’t drunk this time.
